In 2020, I came up with the idea of a new entertainment and brand engagement format for social media where hybrid characters transcend traditional physical and mental constraints, allowing for dynamic evolution shaped by the storyteller and audience interaction.
Although there was significant interest four years ago, technological limitations made production costs prohibitive. However, recent AI advancements have unlocked the opportunity not only to produce complex content more economically but also to create characters that can autonomously interact on social media 24/7.
After almost two decades in content production for films and commercials, making this idea a reality is one of the most exciting opportunities of my career.
Meet Nova on Mars
Please welcome Nova on Mars, the first character within the Hyperworlds universe. She is live on X, tweeting about her life on Mars, engaging with followers, and sharing her story in real-time. Nova's backstory is designed by screenwriters and evolves through her feed interactions and engagement with other users.
For brands, imagine Nova documenting her journey to Mars: The final Tesla ride to the launch site. That moment when Starship breaks through the atmosphere while she tweets about missing a latte from Starbucks. Nova unpacking her FedEx care package from Earth, sharing her excitement as she discovers her favorite Lululemon gear adapted for Mars conditions. Not just posts – but a living story that unfolds in real-time, where she interacts with followers about the brands and experiences she's leaving behind. Authentic. Human. Real.
The future of brand engagement
The same concept can be tailored to specific audiences and brands through unique character stories: A Red Bull athlete in 2035 testing prototype wingsuit tech above neo-Tokyo. A Patagonia-sponsored climate researcher documenting melting glaciers in real-time from 2035. Nike's cybernetic marathon runner breaking records in the Mars Colony Games.
